A US study shows that the brains of players addicted to video games works differently than most casual players.
We know that video games can make some players addicted quickly. A recent study, published in "Addiction Biology", conducted by
American researchers, proves that the brains of these players has
different connections to those less addicted.
Players addicted to video games have better reflexes face danger
A
team of American researchers has just published the results of a study
comparing the brains of young players addicted to video games to the
more reasonable players. This study was conducted on 186 boys from 10 to 19 years in South Korea.
Result: the brains of players who can not make video games have connections that other players do not. Scientists have observed in the first mentioned neuronal hyperconnexion between certain areas of their brain. This hyperconnexion has positive and negative effects. And hardcore gamers would prove more responsive in some situations, particularly the face of danger but in return they would have more difficulty concentrating and may be subject to difficult to control impulses.

To
carry out this study, researchers performed an MRI to 106 boys from 10
to 19 years, waiting for treatment against addiction to gambling. They
then compared to those of 80 players showing no particular disorder . Once the MRI analyzed 2 groups, scientists discovered a strong
connection between the temporoparietal junction and the prefrontal
cortex, two regions that favor distraction.
Phenomena also observed in schizophrenia
"We could consider most of these differences we see as beneficial assets. However,
the positive aspects of these neuronal connections can not be separated
from the problems that come with ", stated Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, a
lecturer in neuroradiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine
(United States).
He added that similar phenomena were observed in people with schizophrenia, trisomy 21 or autism. A mystery, however, remains unclear: is the video game that alters neuronal connections, or the difference in the connections makes these young people addicted to video games?
